The cards we’re dealt…or the cards we give

The cards of life…you get them or give them for any occasion….birthday, anniversary, you’re pregnant, engaged, miss you, goodbye, hello, love, get better, cheer up, new home and even break up.
There is a card for every glittery & not so glittery moment in life.

This morning while I was suffering from insomnia I decided to organize my office/spare room/dressing room/sewing room shelf. I started with my card box but didn't get very far! I got distracted by the old cards I have been given over the years.
This is my most recent favorite. How appropriate with the New Year’s resolution of weight loss coming around the corner. My friend Jen always sends me the perfect cards!

I also stumbled across some old cards I had kept from past relationships. It’s funny the feelings that stir around after reading an old note written by an old flame
{i decided to purge my heartbreak}
As much as I love to receive cards, I also love to give cards.
My friend gave me these amazing cards for my birthday this year- Pretty Polaroid Notes. I love love them and have sent out a few already!

My favorite cards to give and get are curly girl design cards. I have a few framed around my house to add a little inspiration to my day.
Here are a few of my favorites….

Take the time to send a card and add a little glitter to someones day!....and help keep the post office in business! You like getting cards in the mail right?

don't do it....

I love this mini candy dish in my kitchen (which never has candy in it)!
Remember this phrase as you finish out the holiday season and embark on the inevitable New Year's resolution "lose weight!" I wish you glittery moments of success as you step on the scale in 2012!

Just like Big Sis....

My 2 adorable nieces. Eleece just got glasses and little Sophie wants to be just like her!  <3 them!

2 inches toooo short

Date: First Date
Who: my friends, boyfriends friend…a full time salesman and part time MBA’er
Where: Club 185…drinks & apps
What I wore: Jeggings, green & cream tunic, short booties and gold accessories
What he wore: button down and bad jeans (uggg!)

When I arrived he was sitting at the bar. First impression was good…attractive, muscular and a good smile. Then he stood up.... His jeans were 2 inches too short! How can he not know his jeans are too short?! Does he not read GQ?

We moved our conversation from the bar to a booth to chat and get to know each other. The conversation was good, but he lacked the humor I look for in a guy.  We talked jobs, family, friends and the inevitable…“past relationships.” During all of this I was able to forget about the short jeans and take the time to get to know him (short jeans can be remedied in time).
After a few kettle & sodas the conversation easily flowed and time flew by.  It was time to call it a night so we asked for the check (which we split) and walked to our cars.

A quick hug and a “it was fun, let’s do it again” and I was on my way home.  The glittery part of the date was his smile.  It was very inviting and made me feel immediately comfortable.
Overall I would say it was a good (not great) 1st date. Will there be a 2nd date? If he asks, I’ll say yes. But he better pick up the check this time!

My Love Life Escapades!

So I’m a 29 year old single girl! My week nights are made up of working late, the gym, cocktails with friends and….first dates.
Dating in your late 20’s is interesting. It’s not like dating in your early 20’s where you’re still unsure of who you are, what you want to do in life ect ect. At this point in my life I’m fairly progressed in my career, incredibly independent and really know what I want out of a relationship. I’ve been on so many first dates I can’t even begin to count. Some of them progressed to 2nd dates, 3rd dates & possibly a kiss or two. But more often than not, I always find something wrong with him. He wore bad jeans, he’s still figuring out his life, he’s a bad kisser or he shaves his arms (the shaving his arms thing wasn’t discovered until a 3rd date.....I immediately deleted his number when I got home). Will I ever find that one guy who has something wrong with him but I like him so much I’ll overlook it? I guess someday it will happen…but for now I will share with you the glittery and not so glittery parts of my love life escapades!

New Years...the hype, the let down!...and heat!

I had TWO glittery moments today: Figuring out my New Year's outfit & Getting my furnace fixed (kind of fixed)!

New Years- Every year I hype up New Year’s...I go all out...make big plans, find the perfect outfit, find my New Year’s kiss....only to be let down. Well this year is not going to be a replay of the years past. This year I’m not planning anything but my outfit (of course!) I hope the party I go to will be fun and I will find my New Year’s kiss, but let’s just say the night is going to go on as if it were any Saturday night. If I have a mediocre time it will have exceeded my expectations and I will be happy to ring in the New Year’s with a smile! The glittery part of my day today was figuring out my outfit! It’s not my “normal OTT (over the top) New Years outfit,” but then again I’m not planning for it to be a “normal” New Year's!

My Dress: Forever 21- $24.80
Gold Belt: my closet

Shoes & Tights: my closet

Accessories: THE MOST IMPORTANT part of every outfit!
Purse: birthday gift from Gap
Watch & Ring- my jewelry armoire
New Bracelet: Forever 21- $6.80
New Earring: Forever 21- $4.80

I have confidence that with the right outfit, a few cocktails and great friends.... my New Year's will be a hit! Pics of the full ensemble and a recap of the night to come!

My Furnace- I have been without heat now for 2 days. This isn’t something I would typically complain about, but the temperature outside has continued to drop and so has the temperature in my apartment. I woke up this morning to the thermostat flashing 54 degrees.....I checked the outside temperate and it was 30 degrees. I'm sure you can image how I felt. The only thing that has saved me the past few days is my handy dandy mini electric heater.

The furnace man came around 2:00. He did a thorough inspection and the final conclusion was- a new furnace...bad news is my landlord is on vacation for another 4 days. Uggg! What am I supposed to do?! The nice technician taught me a quick trick for when it stops working and it's now up and running. Until it stops again. But with my little HVAC lesson, I think I'll be able to manage until I get a new furnace. Thank GOD for heat. How do people survive without it? I feel lucky to have heat...and that is a glittery part my day. HEAT!

the glittery part?

Have you stopped lately and thought about the best moment of your day? That little sparkle that made you smile? That early morning cup of coffee, putting on the new shoes you got on super sale, the text message from the cutie you met at Starbucks, the extra 25 crunches you did at the gym this morning, dinner at the new hot spot in town? Well that’s what life is all about…those “glittery” moments in your day. No matter how big or small they all mean something and help get you through the day. I would like to share my glittery moments with you!
